Kenya's government is worried after herders killed one of the country's oldest wild lions, and six more lions were speared in a separate village on Saturday. This brings the total number of lions killed last week to 10.
On Thursday night, Loonkiito, a male lion who was 19 years old, left Amboseli national park and entered a village in search of food. Kenya Wildlife Service spokesperson Paul Jinaro described the lion as weak and fragile.
In the Mbirikani area of Kajiado county, six additional lions from the national park were attacked with spears by herders. This occurred after the lions had killed 11 goats.
Last week, herders killed 10 lions in a conflict between humans and wildlife that has caused concern for the government.
