The family of a deceased football player from Oregon has expressed uncertainty regarding a claim of paternity, while the player's girlfriend has responded defensively.
The family of Spencer Webb, a deceased Oregon football player who died while cliff-diving in July 2022, is asking for a DNA test from his girlfriend after she announced that she was pregnant with their child a month after his death. However, the girlfriend, Kelly Kay Green, who is an Instagram influencer, claims that she and Webb's mother have already obtained a DNA result that proves the baby's paternity. Webb's brother, Cody Webb, and other family members have released a statement to The Sacramento Bee, questioning the paternity of Green's child, who was born in March, and alleging that Webb and Green had only met a few days before his death. The family has been focusing on their grieving process since the loss of their loved one.
The statement stated that both as individuals and as a family, we are mourning and attempting to deal with this tragic event.
The family has taken on the responsibility of dealing with a sensitive situation because Spencer is unable to handle it alone. According to the family's statement, Green has refused to compromise on the method of collecting DNA for testing. Green initiated the DNA process with Webb's parents in April, but the family did not feel comfortable with the process as a representative of Green's family was not present. The family also provided a timeline of Green and Webb's relationship, stating that they first communicated through social media on June 28 and met in person on July 7. Webb, who was 22 years old at the time, died on July 13 after a cliff-diving accident. More sports coverage can be found on Fox News.
Green responded to the accusations in a video shared on her Instagram Stories on Friday, which appeared to be a reaction to the family's statement. She expressed frustration with the negativity and criticism from strangers who are unaware of the full situation. Green acknowledged that there is family drama involved, but she did not want to delve into it.
The personal matters related to my deceased partner's family are not for public discussion. I have a positive relationship with his mother and sisters, and we collaborated with a lawyer to conduct a DNA test to confirm the paternity of the child, which is undoubtedly his.
She commented that it's obvious the child belongs to him just by looking at him. Green mentioned that some of Webb's relatives are still feeling angry and distressed about his death. She also stated that she possesses the DNA test, so there's no need to suggest getting one as it's already available.
The birth certificate bears Spencer's name.
She stated that she will share the item once it arrives by mail and advised others to find more productive activities to engage in. Webb, who played as a tight end, was getting ready for his fourth season with the Oregon football team.
During the 2021 season, he participated in 11 games for Oregon and was anticipated to commence as a tight end. This report was aided by Joe Morgan and Ryan Gaydos from Fox News.
