The FBI has reacted to the critical Durham report on the Trump-Russia investigation by highlighting the implementation of numerous corrective measures.
On Monday, the FBI issued a response to the critical report from Special Counsel John Durham, which concluded that the Department of Justice and FBI did not adhere to their duty of following the law when initiating the Trump-Russia investigation. The agency highlighted numerous corrective measures that have already been taken in response to the Durham investigation in a statement to Fox News Digital.
The reason for the implementation of numerous corrective measures by the current FBI leadership, which have been in place for a while, was the behavior investigated by Special Counsel Durham in 2016 and 2017.
The FBI stated that if the reforms had been implemented in 2016, the errors mentioned in the report could have been avoided. The FBI emphasized the significance of maintaining the agency's work with thoroughness, impartiality, and expertise, which is what the American people deserve and anticipate.
DeSantis and the GOP strongly criticize the FBI after the release of Durham's findings in the Trump-Russia investigation, calling for a complete overhaul. Fox News obtained the report on Monday, which focused on the origins of the FBI's initial investigation, known as "Crossfire Hurricane," into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
On Monday afternoon, the Justice Department received Durham's last report and made it public.
The report covers over 300 pages.
The report stated that after examining Crossfire Hurricane and associated intelligence operations, it was determined that the Department and FBI did not adhere to their duty of following the law in regards to specific events and actions mentioned in the report.
According to a former federal prosecutor, the results of the Durham investigation could have a long-lasting negative impact on the public's trust in the intelligence community. Durham's investigation uncovered evidence that senior FBI officials did not properly analyze information they received, particularly from politically connected sources, which played a role in the Crossfire Hurricane investigation and the subsequent appointment of Special Counsel Mueller.
The report stated that Trump's political opponents provided or financed a considerable amount of investigative leads, and the Department did not thoroughly scrutinize these materials or the intentions of those who provided them. This was despite the fact that the FBI Director and others were made aware of significant and possibly conflicting intelligence around the same time.
