Former President Trump stated on Monday that former FBI Director James Comey and Democrats should be held responsible for their years-long investigation into alleged collusion between Trump and Russia, now that Special Counsel John Durham has released a report stating that the Trump-Russia probe was unjustified.
Trump stated to Fox News Digital that he and the American public have been harmed by the Democrats' ongoing and disloyal deception, which was initiated by Comey.
The consequences for subjecting our nation to this ordeal must be severe. According to Durham's findings, the Department of Justice and FBI did not adhere to their duty of following the law when initiating the Trump-Russia inquiry.
During an interview with Fox News Digital, Trump expressed his belief that the actions taken during the initial Trump-Russia investigation by the FBI were completely shameful. He also mentioned that the public's outrage towards this report is unprecedented. Trump also praised John Durham's report on the origins of the FBI's Russian collusion probe, stating that it took a long time because Durham is a meticulous investigator.
The outcome is clear and a complete failure in terms of fairness. Trump also stated that the consequences for national security are extremely serious. He believes that the situation was a significant and hazardous deception and plans to provide additional thoughts soon. Durham's investigation into the origins of the FBI's "Crossfire Hurricane" inquiry, which examined whether the Trump campaign collaborated with Russia to sway the 2016 presidential election, was released on Monday afternoon and spans over 300 pages.
Although Sussmann was acquitted, the Durham trial provided further evidence that the Clinton campaign conspired to link Trump to Russia. The report stated that the Department and FBI did not adhere to their duty of following the law during certain events and activities related to Crossfire Hurricane and intelligence operations.
The Durham investigation found that the FBI offered Christopher Steele $1 million to support the allegations against Trump in the dossier. The investigation also revealed that senior FBI personnel did not analyze the information they received properly, especially if it came from politically-affiliated sources. This lack of analytical rigor contributed to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation and the need for Special Counsel Mueller's investigation.
The report highlights that Trump's political opponents provided or financed investigative leads, which were heavily relied upon. However, the Department failed to scrutinize these materials and the intentions of those who provided them, despite being aware of contradictory intelligence. The report specifically mentions former FBI Director James Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as part of the past FBI leadership, according to Durham.
According to Durham's report, there are no major suggestions for altering the current guidelines and policies of the Department and FBI to ensure proper conduct and accountability in counterintelligence activities. The FBI responded to the report by stating that corrective actions were already implemented by current leadership due to the conduct examined by Special Counsel Durham in 2016 and 2017, and these actions have been in place for some time.
The FBI stated that if the reforms had been implemented in 2016, the errors highlighted in the report could have been avoided.
This report emphasizes the significance of maintaining the FBI's commitment to performing their duties with the highest level of thoroughness, impartiality, and expertise that the American public deserves and anticipates.
