The Illinois State Police have made public the dashcam video of a fatal shooting incident where a stranded driver shot a trooper and was killed in the exchange of gunfire. The trooper had stopped to help the suspect at approximately 3 a.m.

Brandon Griffin, a 23-year-old man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and his spouse, Christine Santos, who is 31 years old, were in close proximity to the automobile.

Despite his condition, he was able to stand up and retrieve a firearm from a nearby seat. A police officer shouted a warning about the gun, but Griffin still managed to shoot and wound one of them.

Griffin passed away at the location.
The trooper who was injured did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital. Santos was taken into custody based on an arrest warrant from New Mexico, where she has a pending case for aggravated assault with a firearm, in which Griffin was also involved.
